Join Us In San Francisco!

The 9th iteration of the Congress brings together international experts in oncology, immunobiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, and molecular imaging to discuss preclinical, translational, and clinical advances in diagnosing, treating, and preventing cancer metastasis as we enter the era of precision medicine. This meeting with all the invited presentations will form the basis of a set of review articles to be published online in Clinical and Experimental Metastasis and in print in a Special Issue.

Course Directors

Stanley Leong MD, FACS, FSSO
Jonathan Zager MD, FACS, FSSO
S. David Nathanson MD, FACS, FSSO

Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians specializing in surgery, oncology, molecular imaging, plastic surgery, radiation oncology, hematology, thoracic medicine with the remainder a mixture of predominantly PhD/scientists from both academia and biotechnology as well as a smaller group of attendees who are in training.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe cancer initiation, progression and dormancy in the cancer microenvironment

  • Describe the complexity of cancer microenvironment

  • Explain the development of resistant cancer clones from immunotherapy and targeted therapy

  • Recognize the utility of SLN biopsy in multiple cancers and that SLN may be the primary gateway to cancer metastasis

  • Describe the clinical utility of liquid biopsy to detect circulating cancer cells or ctDNA

  • Describe the molecular mechanisms of breast cancer metastasis

  • Distinguish the pathways of metastasis by virtue of the lymphatic versus blood vessels

  • Describe the novel frontiers in the treatment of metastatic melanoma based on its mechanisms of metastasis

  • Describe oncolymphology: immune system and cancer

  • Discuss the application of immune check point inhibition and targeted therapy against cancer for personalized cancer treatment

  • Describe the potential application of molecular imaging for pinpoint stereotactic radiotherapy

  • Identify secondary lymphedema resulting from cancer treatment and methods to overcome lymphedema

Featured Topics of Discussion for the Cancer Metastasis Congress

  • Cancer microenvironment

  • Spatial systems immunology in cancer

  • Resistance to cancer therapy

  • Biology and clinical implications of the Sentinel Lymph Node

  • Circulating tumor cells and liquid biopsy

  • Molecular mechanisms of breast cancer Metastasis

  • Cancer Metastasis through the Lymphovascular system

  • Novel frontiers in the treatment of metastatic melanoma

  • Tumor infiltrating lymphoscytes for treatment of metastatic cancer

  • Immunotherapy and targeted therapy for personalized cancer
